Ansys Mechanical Day 4, Buckling

Overview: Re-Use the previous 5X5 Column Geometry, and update its material to Polyethylene.

Next:

  • Execute a static structural analysis then find the first five buckling modes by solving a buckling analysis
  • Multiply the ‘load multiplier’ by the initial load from the static analysis to determine the force needed to buckle the column

Challenge: Without shortening the column, modify the geometry so that the column is 50% lighter, while maximizing the buckling load.

Next: Go back to the Connecting Rod Compression Load Case

  • Conduct a Buckling Analysis
  • Will the Connecting Rod Buckle at 2,000 lbs?
