Creo Simulate Day 4, Buckling

Overview: Build a 5″ by 5″ by 20″ column made of nylon as in the image to the left for buckling analysis.

To Start: Add the proper constraints at the base and a vertical compressive load of 100 lbs.

Next:

  • Execute a static structural analysis then find the first five buckling modes by solving a buckling analysis
  • Multiply the ‘buckling factor’ by the initial load from the static analysis to determine the force needed to buckle the column

Challenge: Without shortening the column, modify the geometry so that the column is 50% lighter, but without the buckling loads decreasing.

Next: Go back to the Connecting Rod Compression Load Case

  • Conduct a Buckling Analysis
  • Will the Connecting Rod Buckle at 2,000 lbs?
